At Çankaya University, English serves as the medium of instruction across all departments with the exception of the Faculty of Law , the Department of Public Relations and Advertising and the Vocational School of Justice. The Department of Foreign Languages plays a crucial role in coordinating educational efforts across the university to ensure that students are adequately equipped with the English language proficiency required for their academic and professional lives.
The importance of foreign language skills in both the academic and professional realms is widely acknowledged. With this in mind, the primary objective of the English Preparatory Unit is to furnish our students with the requisite level of English competence to facilitate their academic and career pursuits.
The overarching mission of the English Preparatory Unit is to enable our undergraduate and graduate students to attain proficiency in English that adheres to international standards. This proficiency is vital for comprehending and engaging with the courses offered within their respective departments and for enhancing their language skills for scholarly research and professional fields. The program emphasizes approaches to learning, namely research, communication, thinking, self-management and social skills.
Effective learning is achieved by acknowledging students’ skills, areas of interest, styles of learning and study habits. Our lecturers, in this sense, assist students to find solutions to their academic challenges with an awareness of their individual differences. Çankaya University Foreign Languages Department functions in a modern educational environment where the staff places a strong emphasis on teamwork, technology use, and professional development.
We are also well aware of the fact that in order for students to function effectively in academic and professional terms they need to be encouraged to develop independent learning skills. In this respect, the program promotes learner autonomy in line with contemporary trends by encouraging them to monitor and take active responsibility for their own learning, communicate their ideas effectively, think critically and creatively, carry out research and utilize information technologies, and transfer all these skills to other fields of life efficiently. Accordingly, our intensive language education program functions within the scope of international standards and with a consideration of learner autonomy in language education and beyond.
Furthermore, the Department of Foreign Languages endeavors to broaden students’ horizons by providing education in other foreign languages. To achieve this, the Modern Languages Unit offers elective courses for languages such as German, Italian, French, Russian, and Spanish, to undergraduate students enrolled at Çankaya University.
We wish you success in reaching your goals in the new academic year.
